I'm searching for a commander and it's not showing up.
This can happen for a couple of reasons:
- The card you're searching for isn't legal as a commander or isn't legal in the EDH format.
- The card is new and hasn't been added to Scryfall yet. Our card data is coming from Scryfall, so if they don't have it, we don't have it.
We update our database with new Scryfall data every day, so if the card is brand-new, just wait a day or so and it should show up.
What's the difference between draft & published games?
Published games are games that have been fully completed by you. If you have a public profile, they will show up there and the data from those games are part of your stats.
Draft games are games that are still in progress. They are only visible to you and the data from those games are not part of your stats.
How do I customize the data I'm recording for each game?
On the Game Settings page, you can pick & choose what data you want to record for each game. You always have to record the following data:
- Date
- Venue
- Game type (eg. cEDH, casual, etc)
- Number of players
- The deck for each player
- Which deck you played
- The deck that won the game (or if the game was a draw)
But the following data is optional, and you can turn the form fields on or off as you see fit:
- Ending turn
- Win reason
- MVP cards
- Combo/Action that won the game
- Mulligan size
- Fun factor
- Notes
- Etc
Alternatively, if you're a purely casual EDH player, you can also turn off the "Use Tournament Data"-option on the User & Profile Settings page - that way you won't see empty tournament data on the Dashboard or Decks pages.
Bear in mind that the more data you record, the more stats we're able to display. So if you wish to utilize Play Nice to its fullest, we recommend recording as much data as possible.
How do I add a new deck to my collection?
Both the Dashboard and Decks pages allow you to easily add a new deck. Simply look for the "Add Deck" box, fill in the required information and hit the "Add Deck" button.
You can also add a new deck when you're adding a new game. If you choose a deck that doesn't exist in your collection as the deck you played for a specific game, it will be automatically added to your collection.
Is there a mobile app for Play Nice?
Play Nice was built fully responsively to provide a great experience on desktop, tablets and your phone. We're currently working on a dedicated mobile app which should launch sometime in 2025.
How do I change my email/username?
Both your email and your username can be changed on the Login & Security page. Please note that if you change your email address, you will need to verify the new email address before you can log in with it.
For security reasons, we only allow you to change your username once every 30 days, so make sure you're happy with your choice before you confirm it.
I subscribed on Patreon, why hasn't my account been updated?
First of all, thanks for supporting us on Patreon - we really appreciate it! Right now, upgrading your Play Nice account after you've subscribed on Patreon is a manual process, so it doesn't happen instantly.
We're working on automating this, but for now, just be patient - we aim to upgrade accounts immediately when we're notified, but sometimes we're just not available (or you subscribed in the middle of the night). Thank you for your understanding!
What's the link to my public profile?
The link to your public profile is "playnicemtg.com/users/{your-username}". So if your username is "michael", your public profile would be playnicemtg.com/users/michael.
How do I change what's shown on my public profile?
By default, your public profile shows the same stats & games data that you yourself see when you're roaming around the site. If you wish to hide certain statistics from public view, you can do so on the User & Profile Settings page.
If you haven't played any games with a specific deck, it will not show up on your public profile. You can also choose to hide a specific deck from your public profile by going to the Decks page, clicking on the relevant deck, then clicking the "Make Private" button.
Lastly, on the User & Profile Settings page, you can also choose to hide your public profile entirely. But where's the fun in that?
I'm in a pod with other Play Nice users - is there an easy way for us to share the game?
There is, indeed. On the "Add Game"-page, there's an option at the bottom called "Share Game". If that option is selected when you save the game, we will generate a QR code that the other players in your pod can scan to add the game to their own Play Nice account.
When one of the other players adds their own copy of the game, they will not be able to see your notes, nor your mulligan size, but they will receive all other game data you've recorded.
The benefit of this is that only one person will need to fill in the game data, and all the other Play Nice users in the pod will benefit from their hard work. Make sure to thank the game recorder!
How does deck versions, deck links and decklists work?
When you add a deck to Play Nice, you can also add a link to the same deck on Moxfield or Archidekt. Once the link has been added, we will automatically add your decklist to Play Nice and it can now be seen by clicking the "View Decklist"-link on the Deck Detail page.
Deck versions are an easy way to track when you make significant changes to your deck - if you add a new deck version and have also added a Moxfield link, we will store a copy of your current decklisk with every version that you create. This allows you to easily view specific decklists for specific versions.
We're working on adding "filtering by deck version" to the Deck stats, so soon you will be able to see exactly how the changes you have made to your deck affect your win rate, matchups, win conditions, etc.
What's the difference between basic & advanced stats?
If you have a free Play Nice account, we restrict the game & deck stats you can see to:
- Win Rate vs Number of Games
- Seat Position
- Mulligan Size by Frequency
- Decks by Win Rate
- Decks by Games Played
- Ending Turn by Frequency
- All Games of All Time
This restriction, obviously, doesn't apply to paid users. If you're on the paid tier, you get access to all of the stats we serve up (matchups, win conditions, win reasons, best cards, venues, and more).
